dancing at founders fest

You’re hanging out at a festival, drinking beer and minding your own business, then where the hell do these guys
come from? A frenetic collection of functioning dysfunctional band geeks stir the crowd – a unique orchestra (I should say marching band) know as Mucca Pazza. Cheerleaders, accordions, horns, theatrics, mayhem – infectious energy that the crowds follow around so not to miss a note. If you catch a performance, you will have fun.

Ed Bussa is a photographer here in Grand Rapids that’s in my photo group that’s come to be know as “Photo Friday.” I’m going to test my photo editing chops and publish one photographer here per week. I’m publishing this photo because there’s tension in what should be a peaceful situation. I’m expecting at any moment to see a kid come tearing between the girls, kicking up sand in mask and fins on a b-line for the beach. Plus how often do you get to see a meditation shot with factories billowing in the background? If you want to see more of Ed’s photography, go here.
Photo Friday consists of a group of international photographers that share one photo per week, as if sending a postcard. It’s simply an email list that I start on Fridays. If you’d like to be added to the list, send me an email with “Photo Friday” in the subject line. You’ll be added next week.
June 29th, 2009 | Comment »If anyone knows of a publication or news source that needs a photographer to shoot the Rothbury Festival, please send me an email. The bands are all covered well by the press… I like to photograph the people. If you’d like to see what I shot last year, please go here. I neglected to make arrangements, and it’s a complete disaster to miss this festival.

These are from an ongoing study of the Grand Rapids Mexican Art Mafia. Tuchis… kind-hearted and loyal… lives passionately… full of charming secrets… lots of love for the people closest to her… a major art mafia princess.
On this particular night, pensive.
